Melodies in Vertical Theory
U.S.S.R. Repertoire (The Theory of Verticality)
This album is just an amazing piece of work. Crackly, out of tune and infused with inescapably pleasant Hip-Hoppityness, it lifts those grey clouds just a little big higher. Individual tracks wend along back-alley courses and eventually sputter out with deep ghetto coolness. Here and there are goofy samples and other senseless extractions, filling in where the music can't sustain the funk. As a package it's a beatful, loinky stroll through downscale suburbia on a late Friday night. I acquired it as an import, then turned around to see it come out domestically. Ask for it by name, and loudly.
