Oh, the legion of ways that you can abuse the music of a piano. Mr. Rabelais starts with well-authored modern compositions, simple and elegant, then takes his performances and crumples them down into four-dimensional tin foil. Though some tracks are simply high-passed, others are progressively more distored, as if dubbed through the worst phone lines imaginable. It's a fractured reality, gorgeously defying all the natural aspects of its own instrumentation. Yet it still retains that essence of simple chamber music. Marvellous. An true delight from the Ritornell label, one that will delight children and pets alike.
