I haven't actually seen the film, but I know the general premise. Which is why I'm sorta amused that the first word I thought of to describe this album was 'primal'. But yeah, I mean it in that the music appeals to something pretty low-level, something instinctual. And there's the combination of earthy drones (mr. Martinez) and cycling, percussive guitar (mr. Brook), which have... oh gosh, I don't know... an 'edge' to them? Yeah! Good word! But... in very trace amounts; only as much as is necessary to create a constant feeling of drama. It's like the surface of a bubble. Something may burst at any time, for any reason -- keep away from sharp objects. And did I mention that the album is gorgeous too? Such a sweet combination. The movie made mega-bucks, so I'd figure the soundtrack would be easy to come by.
