Offbeat - A Red Hot AIDS Benefit
This baby is just Jazz goes all over the goddamn place. Red Hot+Cool seems to have an interesting flair for collecting different Jazz artists and styles together into well integrated compilations, but this is too weird. As you can see, there'a a lot of little chunks, and they vary from slow to fast, almost always with a Beat influence or some funky Radical flair. The DJ Spooky track got some spoken word, DJ Krush threw in his two cents, and Skylab ended up not only with tracks but with several of the interludes. Moby's track at the end is a definite afterthought, but I think it's message is clear. The disc itself has a QuickTime multimedia portion, though Pooky hasn't quite figured out how to handle it just yet. If you're in the market for something that's the Jack of All Sounds, definitely peek this album's way.
